Nomination into the National Register of Historical Places

April 23, 1987

We are pleased to inform you that the Peace Lutheran Church has been entered into the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service.

1980 the Old Gahanna Sanctuary, Inc., A non-profit community organization, was formed to restore and preserve the former church. It now is used as a community center for a variety of groups and activities in Gahanna.

The Old Peace Lutheran Church is the only example of Gothic Revival religious architecture in Gahanna. Its significance is demonstrated further in comparison to the two other historic churches in the community. The former Gahanna Community Church (1875) is a simple brick structure that displays no known academic style. Major additions in 1948 and 1956 have compromised the integrity of the Mifflin Presbyterian Church build in 1840 and 1896.
